VietAbroader Project: Admission Guide Book
Recruitment Announcement
VietAbroader is currently conducting a project to write and get published a guide book on the American college admissions. The book’s targeted audience includes prospective Vietnamese applicants to U.S. colleges, their parents, teachers, educators, and anyone interested.
The author team is having 3 positions now open for applications. The responsibilities and qualifications for each position are listed below. Also, before you apply, please carefully view the project syllabus on this link:

The common qualifications for all 3 positions include:
- Reading and writing skill in Vietnamese.
- Fluency in English communications.
- Knowledge about the American higher education and college admissions.
- Experiences in applying to American higher institutions.
- Research skill
- Critical and logical thinking
- Being familiar with Microsoft Office
Position 1:
- Writing responsibility: Chapter 1 (Introduction to the U.S. education)
The K-12 system
The higher education system
- Additional qualifications: Understanding of the U.S. education model.
Position 2:
- Writing responsibility: Chapter 2 (Financial aid and scholarships)
- Additional qualifications: Understanding of sources of education aids and scholarships.
Position 3:
- Writing responsibility: Chapter 7 (Community College admissions)
- Additional qualifications: Having studied in a community college and transferred to a four-year institution.

Another writing sample in Vietnamese is optional, but recommended.
Should you think there is any other information for consideration, please feel free to include it.

After receiving your application, we will compose a short-list and then contact you to schedule a 30-minute discussion. Final decisions will be released on July 11, 2009.
A concluding note:
After you read the project syllabus, we hope that you will realize both the huge benefits of the project’s success, and the challenges and workloads that we have to face. Please do not regard this as a volunteer activity in which you can work intermittently. While the amount of writing is not too heavy, as you will compose about 20-30 pages in 3 months, achieving high quality and steady progress will necessitate your passion and commitment. In return, this opportunity may allow you to create an impact on later generations of Vietnamese applicants. “How many a man has dated a new era in his life from the reading of a book.” wrote Henry David Thoreau. However, please be reminded that there is no middle-way for the outcome of our project. Either we make it and get our book published, or we see our work scrapped and our labor vaporize. If you would like to do something good, something interesting, something influential, this may be the moment.

LÀ GÌ?
Diễn đàn Tuổi trẻ Việt Nam 2009 với chủ đề “Tuổi trẻ Việt Nam trên con đường hội nhập: Làm thế nào để đóng góp cho cộng đồng?” là một hội thảo được tổ chức tại Hà Nội trong vòng sáu ngày (20 – 25/07/2009). Diễn đàn là nơi để các bạn trẻ năng động gặp gỡ với những người có chung tâm huyết và thảo luận về những vấn đề mà Việt Nam và thế giới đang phải đối mặt, cũng như vai trò của thế hệ trẻ trong bối cảnh đó. Chúng tôi mong muốn tiếp kỹ năng, tri thức và cảm hứng để tuổi trẻ Việt Nam có đủ tự tin cùng tuổi trẻ thế giới đương đầu với các khó khăn hiện nay: biến đổi khí hậu, khủng hoảng quốc tế, nghèo đói, bất bình đẳng… Đến với diễn đàn, bạn sẽ có cơ hội được gặp gỡ và kết bạn với 35 bạn trẻ đến từ khắp mọi miền trên Tổ quốc, được gặp gỡ và trò chuyện với những người nổi tiếng và thành đạt, có kinh nghiệm và kiến thức trong các lĩnh vực : Văn hóa, Giáo dục, Môi trường và Kinh tế. Diễn đàn là cơ hội để bạn hoàn thiện bản thân và học hỏi những kĩ năng mới thông qua các hoạt động đa dạng: thảo luận, làm việc theo nhóm, thuyết trình, giao lưu với khách mời, tìm hiểu thực tế…
Diễn đàn tuổi trẻ Việt Nam được tổ chức lần đầu tiên vào tháng 6 năm 2008 và đã đạt được thành công lớn, nhận được sự đánh giá cao của các khách mời và các thành viên tham dự.
MỤC ĐÍCH?
Đến với diễn đàn tuổi trẻ Việt Nam, bạn sẽ được:
- Làm quen và kết bạn với những người trẻ nhiệt tình, chung tâm huyết đóng góp để cùng nhau xây dựng một mạng lưới những nhà lãnh đạo tiềm năng có khao khát đóng góp cho xã hội
- Tiếp cận các kiến thức xã hội cơ bản và học cách sử dụng, phân tích các kiến thức đó
- Rèn luyện các kỹ năng cần thiết: lãnh đạo, tổ chức, thuyết trình, giao tiếp, làm việc nhóm…
- Được gặp gỡ các vị khách mời là những chuyên gia nổi tiếng hoặc những thanh niên trẻ thành công trong mỗi lĩnh vực.
- Được thử thách bản thân, suy nghĩ, học hỏi và truyền cảm hứng!
Đặc biệt, sau khi diễn đàn kết thúc, các thành viên tham dự sẽ tổng hợp các ý kiến thảo luận trong suốt 6 ngày thành một bản Thông cáo gửi đến các cơ quan tổ chức liên quan để cất lên tiếng nói của thế hệ trẻ về những vấn đề quan trọng của đất nước.
KHÁC GÌ LỚP GDCD NHÀM CHÁN?
Diễn đàn tuổi trẻ Việt Nam được khởi xướng và thiết kế bởi tuổi trẻ, vì tuổi trẻ. Diễn đàn khác với các lớp học truyền thống ở không khí cởi mở, sôi nổi được tạo nên qua các hoạt động sáng tạo: các trò chơi, phim tài liệu, các hoạt động tập thể, các buổi dã ngoại và các buổi học, buổi tranh luận thú vị. Chúng tôi chỉ là cầu nối cung cấp tài liệu và phương tiện, các bạn mới sẽ là người tạo nên các buổi tranh luận và rút ra kiến thức cho bản thân!
ĐỐI TƯỢNG THAM DỰ?
Đối tượng tham gia diễn đàn là những học sinh sinh viên có độ tuổi từ 16 – 22 tuổi (đang học THPT hoặc đại học). Lệ phí tham dự chương trình là 100.000 VNĐ/ người. Số tiền này sẽ được dùng để trang trải một phần chi phí bữa trưa, nước uống và bữa ăn nhẹ giờ giải lao mà Diễn đàn sẽ cung cấp cho các bạn. Ban Tổ Chức sẽ cố gắng giành một phần kinh phí để hỗ trợ tiền đi lại cho các bạn ở xa Hà Nội, đặc biệt là các bạn từ miền Trung và miền Nam (tùy theo nhu cầu cá nhân). Ngoài ra, các thành viên tham dự tự chịu trách nhiệm về phương tiện đi lại và chi phí cá nhân phát sinh.

Tổ chức VietAbroader (hay thường gọi là VA) là một trong những tổ chức phi lợi nhuận do những sinh viên Việt Nam tại Hoa Kỳ tạo lập và duy trì. Hội thảo VietAbroader2005 , 2006 và 2008 do chính các du học sinh tổ chức đã thu hút được hơn 3000 học sinh, sinh viên và phụ huynh trên khắp cả nước.
Kể từ những ngày đầu thành lập cho đến nay, các thành viên của VietAbroader đã liên tiếp gặt hái được những thành quả to lớn: hơn 300 suất học bổng với tổng số trị giá hơn 10 triệu USD từ các trường đại học TOP của Mỹ như Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Georgetown, MIT, Princeton, Smith, Stanford, Wesleyan, Williams, Yale...
Để tiếp tục giúp đỡ nhiều học sinh Việt Nam đạt ước mơ du học Mỹ, Hội thảo VietAbroader 2009: "CHUYỀN ĐUỐC" sẽ được tổ chức vào mùa hè này với sự tham dự của chính những du học sinh đang học tập các trường đại học tốt nhất nước Mỹ, những chuyên gia, đại sứ quán Mỹ và Viện Giáo dục Quốc tế IIE ở cả TP Hồ Chí Minh và Hà Nội. VIETABROADER SYMPOSIUM ABSTRACT AND SURVEY
VietAbroader members are true intellectuals. Gifted with elite education, each has accumulated a respectable amount of knowledge in particular fields; and not just knowledge, but passion and keen interest. This project is, therefore, a direct response to the need to exchange those ideas and passion among members. The benefit is three-fold: (1) a medium for great minds with the same interest; (2) a chance to broaden the interdisciplinary knowledge that transcends the limitations of time and school’s major and minor requirements; and (3) a big picture of various disciplines that assists rising freshmen in choosing courses and major(s) beside the usual five-line course description.
Based on the survey’s result and interviews, certain members will be competitively chosen into groups of speaker according to their expertise and interest. Each group will prepare a syllabus and a lecture of its subject (i.e. economics, international relations, media, etc.) and collectively present it to the audience interested in the matter. Dialogue during and after the presentation is crucial: while learning, the audience will not forget to use its unopinionatedness as an advantage in challenging the status quo and constructing alternatives.
Rigorous academic responsibility is expected with preparatory readings, note-taking, discussion, review and culmination. Round table format is stressed; there will be no hierarchy. Occasionally, VAS will invite experts pertinent to the discussed issue as guest speaker. Finally, it's free. There is no fee for exchanging knowledge.
In the longer run, VAS will try to create opportunities for its members to do research collectively.
